What is a neighbourhood plan?
A neighbourhood plan (NP) is community-organised, community-led and ultimately community-owned by the villages of Beckington, Rudge and Standerwick. So now is the chance to have your say.

The plan will provide the framework for the future of our villages, primarily, but not exclusively, through planning policies. The plan can for example:

-
Bring forward a wide range of social, employment, housing, open space, heritage and transport proposals that genuinely meet the local needs and, of course, sustainability aspirations.
-
Encourage the better design of new buildings such that they feel part of the villages and recognise their historical and architectural context.
-
Concentrate on the key issues that the villagers think are crucial.

After a public meeting in September 2023, it was agreed that a NP could be very important for the future of the three villages. 13 volunteers came forward to establish a steering group. Using a variety of approaches, they will engage and consult with local people over the next few months to collect data, aspirations, wants and new ideas. All of the way, the steering group will be checking back to ensure that they are hearing what you say.

Eventually there will be a referendum before the NP can become part of the statutory plans for the area. To be approved, more than 50% of those who vote must be in favour.

Through its visions, aims and proposals, the plan can provide a framework for the 5, 10, or even 20 years. As always, certain national criteria and processes must be adhered to and they will be taken into account as consultations and proposals are developed.

Ultimately, the steering group is here to produce a plan based on your ideas. Don't sit back, be part of the future of our villages.
